What's up Whitehall -
New Event Comes to Town
April 2, 2009
While there have been a number of culinary additions to downtown Whitehall in the last year, the greater White Lake Area has a much larger number of tasty destinations. Now there will be an event that will celebrate all that White Lake has to offer. The Taste of White Lake is coming April 30 and will be a benefit for the Howmet Playhouse, a definite downtown Whitehall good cause. We caught up with Cindy Beth Davis, Manager for the Howmet Playhouse, to hear all the details about the event.
DW: What was the inspiration for the event?
CBD: The Playhouse would like to become a more visible presence within in its own community, as well as within the greater West Michigan area. Unfortunately, we are working on a very strapped budget this year, with no funding allotted for year-round marketing. Originally, volunteers Helen Fink and Mary Payne of White Lake Performing Arts began to brainstorm towards the concept of a unique event held to raise funds for this specific purpose. They teamed up with Emil Rousseau at Harborview Grille and the next thing we knew- the concept for a Howmet Playhouse-Taste of White Lake had been born! We loved the idea because it created a built-in community aspect that would help to promote our local restaurants, all while supporting a great cause. All of the proceeds garnered from the event (ticket sales, alcohol sales, and raffle tickets) will go directly towards marketing for the Playhouse and its year round events and activities.
DW: I hear you have 20 establishments lined up for the event. Hit us with some of the best offerings so we know what we will be in store for.
CBD: We're thrilled to say that we're sponsored by many local area organizations, all of whom are listed at our website. Another twenty area restaurants will provide "just a taste" of the wonderful meals available in the greater White Lake area.
DW: Besides the food what else will be on hand to entertain the senses?
CBD: We're very excited to be hosting the Sweetwater Local Foods Market and several locally renowned musicians, Tommy Foster and The Oat Bran Boys. White Lake Performing Arts will have wine available for sale, proceeds to benefit the same great cause. We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of our sponsors, all of whom have donated some really classy and incredible items for our raffle and door prizes. From live music to fresh food and produce, from great gifts to a great cause- this is one delicious event that you WON'T want to miss!
DW: Well, thanks so much for being one those making this event a reality. It sounds like a win-win and an over all great event for White Lake.
CBD: Thanks. Truth be told, this event could have never happened without the incredible support of our community, the participating local restaurants, the staff at City of Whitehall and of course- the many wonderful volunteers who are working tirelessly to make this project a reality! My thanks goes out to each of them for creating an event with so much interest and universal appeal, and to the many folks who plan to patronize this exciting event.
